Event Information

The Buddy Walk & Harvest Fair is a fun, fall-themed day that takes place at a classic New England setting in Central Massachusetts. Over 500 individuals with Down syndrome, families, and friends gather at the beautiful recreational fields to promote acceptance and inclusion and to celebrate the Down syndrome community.

Fundraising Goal: $125,000

We ask all walkers, ages 13 and up, strive to reach the $200 fundraising goal by September 30th.

Your fundraising efforts are critical to our mission and directly impact programs and services that provide hope to new and expectant parents, training to medical professionals and students, best practices to educators, meaningful opportunities for teens and adults, and a strong voice on Capitol Hill.

About Our Theme

This year’s theme, “Believe”, relates to virtually everything we do. We BELIEVE that people with Down syndrome should be allowed to pursue meaningful lives in their communities. We BELIEVE that all aspects of society should accept and include individuals with Down syndrome fully. We BELIEVE that new and expectant parents should have access to the latest, most accurate information about having and raising a child with Down syndrome. We BELIEVE that people with Down syndrome should not be defined by their disabilities, but rather should be celebrated for their abilities.

The Buddy Walk® was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 walks planned for 2013 worldwide. In 2012, more than $11.5 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs and services, as well as the national advocacy and public awareness initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
